Changes to Accessing the STAT!-Ref Electronic Textbooks Collection

The Alumni Medical Library currently provides access to the STAT!-Ref electronic textbooks program via a local area network that is housed here on the BUMC campus. Beginning at approximately 11:00 am on April 18, 2001, STAT!-Ref will be be accessed directly from the producer's Web site at http://online.statref.com/default.asp?grpalias=BUSoM. This process should be transparent to STAT!-Ref users, and should not cause any system down-time. This switch to direct access from the producer's Web site will result in more frequent updates to the materials available in the collection.

If you notice problems accessing STAT!-Ref, contact a reference librarian at 617-638-4228 or refquest@med-libwww.bu.edu, or contact Ron Tate at 617-638-4576 or rtate@bu.edu.

Because of licensing agreements with the software producer, STAT!-Ref access will continue to be restricted by I.P. address (an Internet Protocol address identifies your machine's location on the Internet):

STAT!-Ref allows users to search one textbook individually, or to select up to 30 titles to be searched simultaneously. STAT!-Ref provides the capability of searching with natural language or a thesaurus. All search results, full text and tables-of-contents can be browsed and printed. Additional features include chapter bibliographies, links to relevant journal article citations from the MEDLINE database, and selected tables, figures, illustrations, and video images.

For more information about STAT!-Ref or to register for a training session, contact a reference librarian at 617-638-4228 or refquest@med-libwww.bu.edu.
